I’ve been thinking a lot about the kind of content I want to share on here, ever since the idea of this blog entered my head, a couple months ago. One of my initial ideas on what to write and update about was music recommendations, because I believe I have great taste in music haha I also listen to a lot of artists I believe deserve more attention, so posting regularly about the music I discover and buy, is a great way to highlight these artists. I’m happy to announce the first regular music-related updates for Jay’s Spaceship: “Whats on my mp3 player?” I want this to be a place where I excitedly report about new songs or whole albums I am obsessed with and spend my own money on supporting. I will make sure to link to the places where you can listen, as well, and maybe if you like the song, you consider buying it, too.
In January 2026 I left Spotify premium behind and decided to go back to the roots; I rebooted the mp3 player I had as a 13-15 year old (which I ditched once I got my first mobile phone that was capable of playing mp3s). I’m so happy it’s still working after all these years! It even got a cute little Hello Kitty charm still dangling on it! I used to be obsessed with Hello Kitty when I was a teen (and got shamed for it by classmates, but that’s another story) Anyways, I’ve been hearing about how unfairly Spotify is paying its artists and as a fellow creative, I started to feel worse and worse whenever I streamed Spotify. On top of that, factoring in how pricey the Premium version is these days, it was an easy decision for me to cancel the subscription and start buying more music. Of course, on top of supporting all my fave artists directly, there’s another great perk of buying music: you end up actually owning a piece of media, instead of just renting it through a subscription. I’ve built a steady little collection of music since January and since my little mp3 player can “only” hold around 120-170 songs at once, I regularly rotate the songs on it. So this series is me showing off the most recent additions to my mp3 player! As mentioned, I will add links to bandcamp and beatport, but since Spotify is still very accessible to most, I might also provide Spotify links or Youtube links, so everyone can get the chance to listen to the song, if desired 😊
So lets get started! oklou - “dance 2” I have heard many things about oklou and have gotten her music recommended by the almighty algorithm, before, but I never really got into her music. When I discovered this song, I fell in love immediately. The atmospheric, dreamy vibe of the instrumental blends so well with her voice. This song has been stuck in my head for days now and is not ready to leave my head anytime soon! https://youtu.be/2LWfRwsklQk https://oklou.bandcamp.com/track/dance-2
Oklou – harvest sky (Anetha Introvert Club edit) This one was the first oklou song I came across, but I have to admit, I only know this version and haven’t listened to the original harvest sky yet. I love the layers and how it changes from dreamy nature sounds to a club beat. https://anetha.bandcamp.com/track/oklou-harvest-sky-anetha-introvert-club-edit
Rose Gray – Club to your arms This one is special to me, because I discovered it together with Lilu. I love how its romantic and emotional, but still super danceable. Beautiful piece of art, I love it a lot. https://youtu.be/rixSliASs6A https://www.beatport.com/de/track/club-to-your-arms/29306020
Chase Icon, Miss Madeline – SPEED LIMIT This song is from the fantastic “STRAWBERRY LEMONADE” EP by the two diva dolls Chase Icon and Miss Madeline. The project is all about maximalism, hedonism and being a sexy icon. SPEED LIMIT is my fave from the EP, because it has hazy, sleazy vibes and embraces the feeling of being high and carefree. https://youtu.be/PVTvNtHHRls?si=DG53mslUCJNTv45N https://twin-twin.bandcamp.com/track/speed-limit The Veronicas – Untouched (moistbreezy edit) I used to be so obsessed with the original song, when I was in my teens! It feels like a full circle moment to have this more clubby version on my mp3 player, 15 years after I had the original song on it. I like how it feels true to the original, not taking too much away from it. Instead it manages to add an almost Trance-like beat that flows so well with the vibe of the song. Great edit, I would love to hear this on the dancefloor, maybe even play it myself. https://moistbreezy.bandcamp.com/track/the-veronicas-untouched-moistbreezy-remix LIZ – Cloudbusting (Maor Levi’s Starlight Remix) I knew this version of Cloudbusting way before I even knew the original by Kate Bush. I love how this remix takes the song and makes an incredibly catchy trance-y banger out of it! Fantastic version of an already great song. https://youtu.be/9Yv1hK1m2aQ?si=oCGEVSw8IsaIcPY9 https://www.beatport.com/de/track/cloudbusting/13254636 DJ Savvy – Glamorous (flip) Even after all these years I still love Fergies “Glamorous” a lot! This flip stays close to the original and adds a fun beat, which makes this version more energetic and danceable. https://posseup.bandcamp.com/track/glamorous-flip Album: a.s.o. – a.s.o. remixed This entire EP is such a vibe, it takes the feeling of trip hop and mixes it with a bunch of different sounds. My favourite song from it is “Go on (Lew E remix), which feels organic in a way you’d expect from a Goa track and is super hypnotizing like a good Trance track. The vocals are so beautifully layered into it, I cannot get enough of it. The other songs are also fantastic, heavy on the Trance and Dub elements. This is truly a great EP to listen to while smoking, chilling and letting your mind wander and dream. https://itsaso.bandcamp.com/album/a-s-o-remixed
